The scoring has nothing to do with the sport of boxing. Having fought for 22 years both at am and pro levels, it is apalling to see what this has become. The sport was first put on the ropes by Don King and his ilk of crooked shysters.
And now, it has spilled over into the amatuer ranks, as it is obvious that the olympic judges are either on the take or trained out of the fencing academy. The lack of knowledge in who is winning any fight versus the recorded outcome is simply unbelievable.
On at least two occasions, I saw one guy get clobbered such that the ref calls a standing eight count, and the guy that got hit scores a point. I’m done with this sham forever and ashamed I was ever a part of it. I give it no more than 5 more years as a recognized sport. Sweet science my ass!
