Yahoo join the mobile market with oneConnect

If I’d had enough money I’d invest it right now in the mobile industry. It is a real explosion, many of the biggest Internet companies are interested now in this market.

Yahoo announced on Tuesday the launch of a new services called oneConnect that will aggregate mobile communications, centered around a socially-connected address book. It will combine e-mail, instant messaging, text messaging, and social networking in one mobile platform.

“Last year we set out to reinvent mobile search with Yahoo! oneSearch, and today with 29 operator partnerships around the world covering more than 600 million subscribers, we believe we have certainly succeeded,” said Marco Boerries, executive vice president, Connected Life, Yahoo!. “Now, we intend to reinvent mobile communications through Yahoo! oneConnect, a revolutionary new mobile communications service that will combine integrated mobile messaging with a socially-connected address book.”

As stated in the Press Release, oneConnect will include the following features:

  • Socially-connected address book
  • Integrated mobile messaging
  • Status to give consumers the capability to view their contacts
  • Pulse to provide consumers the functionality to see a dynamic overview of what friends are up to
  • Favorites to keep the people consumers interact with most at their fingertips
  • Social contact card
  • Innovative location-sensing technology
  • An open communications platform

As stated by ClickZ, Yahoo’s OneSearch will be the exclusive mobile search tool for T-Mobile’s eleven European Markets, starting the end of March, the two companies starting a partnership for many other services such as mobile messaging, e-mail, and social networking. The announcement was made after Nokia said that it will include Google in its search application.

Yahoo! oneConnect is expected to become available in the second quarter of 2008
