A new documentary film titled Melania, co-produced and directed by Brett Ratner, is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on Jan. 30, 2026, following a high-profile promotional push and a private screening hosted by First Lady Melania Trump at the White House this weekend.

Melania TrumpThe 104-minute film follows Trump during the 20 days leading up to President Donald Trump’s second inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, offering behind-the-scenes access to transition preparations and inauguration planning. According to Amazon, the documentary is positioned as a “cinematic experience” built around exclusive footage of meetings, private moments, and the logistical operations surrounding the first lady’s return to Washington.

Reuters reported that Trump played a key role in shaping the documentary’s creative direction, and that the film includes sequences covering inaugural events as well as elements of her work and day-to-day responsibilities, including security-related logistics. Reuters also noted that the project is “not intended to be a political film.”

In addition to the feature documentary, a follow-up documentary series tied to Melania Trump’s initiatives is also in development, according to Reuters.

Premiere plans and promotion

The film is expected to include a marquee premiere event in Washington, D.C., with coverage indicating a launch tied to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Promotion around the release has also become part of the story. Reuters reported that upcoming publicity includes high-visibility appearances connected to the film’s rollout.

Ratner’s return to directing draws scrutiny

Melania marks Ratner’s first major directing project in years and arrives amid renewed attention on the filmmaker, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct dating back to 2017, which he has denied. Entertainment coverage has noted that his involvement has been a focal point of discussion as Amazon promotes the film.

With its theatrical release days away, Melania is poised to draw interest from both political observers and film-industry watchers—testing whether a documentary centered on a sitting first lady can break through as an event movie in a crowded release calendar.
