htmlAn HTML editor (or web editor) is a software designed to facilitate the preparation and editing of documents written in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). An HTML document is the main component of a web page. There are two categories of editors :

  • WYSIWYG editors
  • Text editors

Editing images, animations and sound are made with the appropriate software. An HTML editor is used only to provide these resources in a Web page.

Pages offering more simple information is usually generated by the application software specific to websites. These programs frequently use PHP, ASP, JSP, CGI or Perl technologies, and are published with the appropriate software.

A WYSIWYG editor allows you to edit a web page as it appears in current browsers. It offers the traditional functions of WYSIWYG word processors. Its two main advantages are the ease of use and immediate observation of graphics rendering. Its two main disadvantages are the lack of control over the quality of the HTML document and the risks of incompatibility with browsers not provided by the publisher (newer, older or less common).
