Jungle

A jungle is a large area of land of dense tropical vegetation. In Sanskrit jangala (जंगल) means uncultivated land. About 6% of the solid surface of the planet is cataloged as jungle.

The natural habitat

The largest jungle in the world are in equatorial Africa from Cameroon to Congo, South and South East Asia from Myanmar to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and the Amazonian forest.

Flora

The base of the trunk in many species is wide projection. It was assumed that these projections help maintain the balance of the tree, but now believed that these projections dissolved nutrients flowing water to the roots of a tree. The leaves are large, also common in trees, shrubs and lower levels herbs of the forest. Great young trees not yet reached the upper deck also have broader leaves, which then decreases with height. Broad leaves help plants absorb more sunlight in trees of the forest edge, and are protected from the top of the wind. Superior leaves forming a canopy, usually smaller than cut to reduce wind pressure. The lower floors of the lower leaves often ends so as to contribute to the rapid outflow of water and prevents the growth of germs on them and muscle destruction of leaves. The tree tops are often very well connected by vines or plants – epiphytes, fixed on them. Other features of the jungle can be extremely thin shell (1-2 mm), sometimes covered with sharp spines or thorns, the presence of flowers and fruits that grow directly on the trunks of trees, a large variety of fruits juicy that attract birds, mammals and even fish that feed with dispersed particles.

Fauna

Nosed monkeys live in the jungle-wide, a number of families of rodents, bats, blades, marsupials, some orders of birds and some reptiles, amphibians, fish and livestock invertebrates. Trees, animals with many prehensile tails – anteaters Cebidae, dwarf and tetradigitates, opossums, porcupines Cebidae, sloths. A lot of insects, especially butterflies (one of the richest faunas in the world) and beetles (100 species), many fish (whole 2,000 species – about a third of the world’s freshwater fauna).

Humidity

Each jungle is divided into four main levels, each with its own characteristics and with different flora and fauna. In the jungle rains abundantly; because of this some regions are always flooded.

The man

These forests play a significant role in the turnover of many companies that cut down trees for wood to produce furnitures, homes etc. Jungle also plays a role in cooling air passing through them. Therefore, the jungle is one of the most important ecosystems of the planet, destroying the jungle leads to soil erosion, reduction of flora and fauna, ecological balance changes over large areas and the world in general.
