BBCode

BBCode is short for Bulletin Board Code, invented through the PHP language to avoid HTML and SQL injections, used to format posts in forums. By abuse of language , the elements of are called BBCode tags. The tag name is delimited by square brackets [ and ] unlike HTML where the characters < and > are used. Some tags have a property, also called attribute, whose value is assigned to the tag using the = symbol.

It can also be combinations of BBCode “tags”:

Marquee diagonal: [updown][scroll]Text[/scroll][/updown]

The sequence [scroll][updown]Text[/scroll][/updown] is not good because the tags are alternated (same principle as HTML). Check, if you are on a forum, use, writing and even the existence of some of the tags presented.

Decline

In the context of Web 2.0, the simple formatting is not always enough to enhance the content of such semantics. This is why many people shift from BBCodes to XBBcodes , Wikicodes or directly to XHTML .
