HTTP

Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP) is the core of traffic on the World Wide Web (or WWW) on the Internet or private networks, and is basically a very simple protocol. It establishes a connection, and it asks for a document, by sending sometimes a set of parameters.

HTTP was originally created to serve the better organization of documents in the academic world. The initial basic concept when it was projected was, as the name suggests, one of hypertext. This is a representation of information where can be created connections between objects (text, images, videos). When an object is selected, you can see the objects related to it. For example, reading a document about classical music, a click with the mouse on the Concerto for Harpsichord and Orchestra, makes the screen to display more information on this creation, and clicking the name of Mozart may display a picture of the composer . Another click can download an audio file containing the concert.

This concept allows very good organization of information dispersed by forming links between them as a mesh network (web). When information is stored on computers around the world, this network becomes World Wide Web or WWW shortened.

Here it is a description of the components involved in an HTTP transfer:

  • client software: Usually called the browser, the most popular such programs currently being Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla and Opera;
  • client computer that is connected to a network (usually the Internet);
  • server connected to the same network as the clients that are accessing;
  • applications on server that implements the HTTP protocol.
