Today was the birthday of Octavian Bellu (known also as Belu), born on February 17, 1951 in Ploieşti, the Romanian gymnastics coach that was head of the national team, with interruptions, between 1988 and 2005.
World Records Academy designed Octavian Bellu the most successful coach, with 305 medals at World and European Championships and Olympic Games, including 16 gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Highly successful, Belu led the team to five world and two Olympic titles, as well as coaching numerous individual gold medalists – since the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union, Romania has been the most successful women’s gymnastics power.
