Yesterday, a plane crashed in the mountains. Accurately locating of the aircraft wreckage crashed in a forest in the Apuseni Mountains failed, after the Special Telecommunications Service indicated three times three different coordinates, and all wrong, very far from where the plane crashed. With all the technology available to the Romanian authorities, who have found success on the transient after six hours of the plane crash, were locals and rangers. Meanwhile, two people died.
The government has yet no blame, but all the talk in the media indicate as main culprit an institution who was not involved in any way in saving: ROMATSA.
Who is ROMATSA?
Romanian Administration of Air Traffic Services – ROMATSA is an autonomous natural monopoly of air traffic services in Romania. It was founded in 1991 and is under the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Tourism. ROMATSA perform specific functions related to Air Traffic Management.
For air traffic services provided to civil aircraft overflying the airspace of Romania, ROMATSA comply with the provisions of EUROCONTROL (European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation), to which Romania joined in 1996.
ROMATSA has as main activity the Romanian airspace operation and provision of air navigation services, including air traffic services, aeronautical communications, navigation and surveillance in the field of aeronautical meteorological services, search and rescue services, services for aeronautical information and the coordination of search and rescue aircraft in distress and to survivors of an aviation accident occurred in FIR Bucharest.
In 2010 , ROMATSA provided air traffic services to a number of 466 587 aircraft.
In 2008, Romatsa recorded total revenues of 616.7 million lei (140 million euros).
