Criticism

In the middle of 2013, the site was the subject of several articles in international journals in relation to cyber-harassment-related suicides. The media coverage around the site echoed many cases of anonymous hate messages and suicide that would result from such harassment. The site was then criticized for not possess effective report offensive messages and tracing system of their authors, and do not have parental controls, as is the norm in other social networks.

However, the site was later responded to these allegations by claiming to have a message reporting system and employ moderators to combat cyber-harassment. Therefore, the site supervision of “sexually explicit” managed by moderators. However, no comment was never deleted, even when it came to explicit threats. This is the main source of criticism of the site.

The site also provides users with security advice and guidance to behave intelligently and responsibly on Ask.fm.
