Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen (born Albrecht, on October 8, 1958) is a German politician and elected president of the European Commission. She was Germany’s Defense Minister from 2013 to 2019. Member of the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), she is the first woman to hold the post of German Defense Minister and becomes President of the European Commission.

Ursula von der Leyen promised in the European Parliament to set more ambitious targets on climate action from the European Commission, stating that in the first 100 days of office as president of the European Commission, will propose legislation that makes Europe the first continent of emission-neutral world at the 2050 horizon, stating that the most urgent challenge is to keep the planet healthy.

Ursula von der Leyen also promised that the future Commission will be made up of an equal number of women and men: Women represent half of the population, and they want their right side, declared Ursula.

Ursula von der Leyen said she was “ready” for a new postponement of Brexit against the set date, October 31, a statement that disappointed British pro-Brexit MEPs. Nigel Farage declared that, in a way, he is rather pleased, because Ursula have made Brexit more popular in the UK.
