Bucharest City Hall is the functional structure with permanent activity that fulfills the decisions of the General Council and the provisions of the General Mayor, solving the current problems of the local community in Bucharest. The head of the institution is the mayor of the municipality.
City Hall headquarters
During the mayor Nicolae Filipescu, a contest (1895-1896) was organized for the building of a City Hall Palace that was won by the architect Ion Mincu; the idea was resumed in 1899 when the mayor was Barbu Ştefănescu Delavrancea and when the contract with the architect Ion Mincu was finalized, but this was not achieved.
A new project was drawn up by the architect Petre Antonescu in 1913, but could not be put into operation due to the outbreak of the first global conflagration. The same architect Petre Antonescu was asked for a new project, which was selected for the competition from 1935 to 1936. But the outbreak of the Second World War has also hampered the building of a building for the Bucharest administration.
In 1948, the Palace of the Ministry of Public Works, the former headquarters of the Ministry of Public Works, designed by the architect Petre Antonescu, became the headquarters of the City Hall, where it functioned until March 2010 when the City Hall moved to a new building on the bank of Dambovita, near the campus of the Polytechnic University.
