Bucharest is the largest economic center of Romania. In 2010 the capital has made about 22.7% of the GDP of Romania and, together with Ilfov county, 25.3% according to specialized institutions, and GDP/inhabitant was with 240% higher than the national average.
In Bucharest is found the most of Romania’s specific economic sectors except for agriculture, starting with services and finishing with construction; machine-building enterprises (heavy machinery, steel machinery, petroleum, agricultural machinery, locomotives, wagons, airplanes and helicopters, buses); electrical industry, electronics, fine mechanics, optics; and chemical companies, construction materials, wood processing.
Bucharest is an important railway, road and air hub.
