Percepţiile extrasenzoriale (PES) implică receptarea informaţiilor pe alte căi decât prin simţurile fizice recunoscute, dar simţite cu mintea. Termenul a fost inventat de Sir Richard Burton şi adoptat de psihologul J. B. Rhine de la Universitatea Duke pentru a desemna abilităţi psihice precum telepatia şi clarviziunea, ca şi abilităţi trans-temporale precum previziunea şi retroviziunea. PES sunt considerate uneori drept al şaselea simţ, instinct sau presimţire. Termenul implică obţinerea de informaţii prin mijloace externe la limita ştiinţei, astfel încât organismul poate primi informaţii doar dinspre trecut spre prezent.
Parapsihologia este ştiinţa care studiază fenomenele psihice paranormale, inclusiv percepţiile extrasenozoriale (PES). Parapsihologii consideră în general astfel de teste precum experimentul ganzfeld ca o dovadă a existenţei PES. Comunitatea ştiinţifică nu acceptă PES datorită bazei disputate a dovezilor, lipsa unei teorii care să explice PES, şi lipsa unor tehnici experimentale care să poată dovedi rezultate pozitive demne de încredere.
